"Obstacle-free circuits in Kandersteg"
On Wednesday, June 19, 2019, the obstacle-free wheelchair paths will be officially inaugurated in Kandersteg in the presence of numerous guests and the press. In the early summer of 2016, providing wheelchair paths was just an idea. However, the local council spontaneously answered the request. In the late summer of 2017 then came motion in the matter. With the already existing brochure "Erlebnis Kandersteg - circular hiking trails in the village" as a basis, a small group set to work with great vigor and looked for routes that are also suitable for wheelchair access.
A few weeks after the start, a certain disillusionment spread. An inspection with a specialist from Procap led to the insight that it would not work without structural measures. It was clear that the project could only be realized with the support of the community and with donations. Fortunately, the project was very well received within a very short time both in the local council and patrons. All persons involved in the project realization provided for a quick completion of their subtasks.
The requested patrons were easily convinced of the value of the project. The extremely gratifying donation receipt covers more than 90% of the total costs. People in wheelchairs can choose between the following obstacle-free pass-ways:
- Wageti circuit (easy)
- Oeschigässli-Kander-Rundweg (medium)
- Oeschiwald circuit (difficult).
