Sport on ice

Several well maintained ice-rinks are available to skaters: soon the youngsters will be playing hockey, and icy football game, and the clanging of the sticks in the man to man contests will ring across the glass hard surface; soon some of the older guests will be sliding the heavy, “bed-warmer-like” stones on a shining expanse of ice toward the winning circle, they will “clean” the ice in front of the stone with brooms. There are many other activities which everyone, including ladies, can enjoy and which add to the festive atmosphere.

Icy fun and games

It’s special fun when a man and a woman are tied together and have to fight another pair on the ice: sled racing on ice is when a man and a woman sit back to back on a sled with rubber shoes on their feet and have to push the sled from one end of the ring to the other and back again without turning the sled: another game is when the lady sits on a wooden shovel and hre partner wearing ice-skates has to push her to the other end of the rink and the pair then change roles for the second lap back to the starting point, or a man skates across the rink while his partner dresses him in hat, sweater or jacket, and skirt and then skates with him back to the winning post – all these games are races against time and other competitors.
